If you are hankering for an escape from Indy, Columbus, IN is a fun 45 minute commute to consider. Columbus is known for primarily one thing only: architecture. Some call it the "mecca" of architecture and for that, Columbus has become an increasingly popular town that people like to explore. The American Institute of Architects lists Columbus, Indiana as sixth in the nation for architectural innovation and design. That number places this small town just behind cities like Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco and Washington DC. If you decide to visit, below is a list of the top 3 things to do while you're in Columbus, Indiana.

1. See the architecture

So (obviously) the number one thing to do in Columbus is to check out the architecture around town. Columbus lays claim to more than seventy buildings designed by notable architects such as Richard Meier, Robert Venturi, I.M. Pei, and many more. From The Miller House, The Garden Tour and First Christian Church, you can explore the many wonderful architecture spots in Columbus.

You can go check out all the infamous sites by yourself or you can go on a tour guide provided by the town. If you check out the Columbus Area Visitors Center website, you should easily be able decide how you want to go about exploring Columbus.

2. Eat at Zwanzigz

Zwanzigz is the best lunch spot in town. It's a pizzeria and brewery located near downtown of Columbus and famous for their lunch specials. Lunch time is when business is always booming for Zwanzigz. For their lunch special, you get a large slice of pizza, with your choice of cheese, sausage, or pepperoni, followed by two delicious breadsticks, along with your choice of dipping sauce. Zwanzigz isn't just known for their wonderful pizza, they're also highly recognized for their brewery.

In 2016, they won the country's Small Brewpub and Small Brewer of the Year award at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver -- AKA the Super Bowl of craft beer competitions. The restaurant is great itself and has a great atmosphere. The service is top notch and all of the staff are very friendly. We would highly recommend stopping at Zwanzigz and trying the Chocolate Stout.

3. Visit Mill Race Park

Mill Race Park is a wonderful place to go and enjoy the outdoors while you're in Columbus, Indiana. It's a great family spot with lots to do. While you're there, you have to explore the unique tower, lake, and the amphitheater. With the tower, you can climb up several flights of stairs to get a great view of the town. The playground equipment is fun and unique as well. The trails are fun to go on too, especially if you like to go for runs.

We will leave you with a Columbus, IN Fun Fact: Hollywood made a movie about this town located just south of Indy. That movie was called Columbus (2017; Rotten Tomatoes; 97%). Full disclosure, we haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on the list!
